10,000 vehicles to deliver essential items to UP people during lockdown: Yogi

Urging people not to panic, Adityanath also assured that all the essential services and supplies will be available during this period in the state

    After Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a country-wide lockdown for 21 days starting today midnight in view of novel coronavirus, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath appealed to the public to voluntarily take part in the lockdown.

    Urging people not to panic, Adityanath also assured that all the essential services and supplies will be available during this period in the state.

    "I would like to assure the 23 crore people of Uttar Pradesh that we have enough stock of essential items like vegetables,milk,medicines etc. For the safety of you and your family don't step out of your houses & maintain social distance," Adityanath said, according to ANI reports.

    Encouraging the need to stay home and practice social distancing, the UP CM also announced that all the essential items of consumption such as milk, fruits will be delivered to the resident's doorstep via 10,000 vehicles during the lockdown period.

    "From tomorrow vegetables, milk, fruits, medicines and other essential commodities will be delivered to your door steps for which we have identified more than 10,000 vehicles. I appeal to you to not go to market to buy essential items," he added.

    The Uttar Pradesh government has issued a fresh set of guidelines for the lockdown period till March 31.

    In its new notice, the Adityanath-led government has stated that any person moving out of the districts where lockdown has been imposed or entering the district will now have to take permission from the local authorities.

    Grocery shops will be allowed to open from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm during the period.

    The total number of novel coronavirus cases across India has spiked to 519, the Union Health Ministry said on Tuesday.
